Medicaid provides health coverage to low-income people and is one of the largest payers for health care in the United States.


The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides federal matching funds to states to provide health coverage to children in families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, but who can't afford private coverage.


For the application, be ready to provide information about:

  • Money you get from jobs and other sources

  • Social Security numbers and birth dates of everyone who wants to apply

  • Costs you pay for bills(rent/mortgage, water, electric, phone,ect)

  • The value of items you pay for or own(vehicles, money in bank accounts, stocks, etc.)

  • Money you get or pay for child support

  • Health insurance information



2 Ways to apply for Medicaid and CHIP:

  1. Call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).

  2. Fill out an application via the QR on the page. If it looks like anyone in your household/application qualifies for Medicaid or CHIP, we’ll securely send your information to your state agency. They’ll contact you about enrollment. When you submit your Marketplace application, you’ll also find out if you instead qualify for an individual insurance plan with savings based on your income
