Affordable homeownership with support and education
For more than forty years, local families have partnered with Amarillo Habitat for Humanity to build and buy affordable places to call home. Homeownership is the cornerstone of our organization and we do that by working with families across Amarillo to provide an alterative means to traditional homeownership. We are able to do this through:
Education – Families in our program are required to attend 30 hours of financial stability courses, which include Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University curriculum, community partners, and pre-and post-home buying counseling.
Buy-in – Families working toward a home must earn 500 sweat equity hours as well as put down a $1,500 down payment toward their first year of taxes and insurance.
Affordability – We provide 25-to-30-year, zero-interest mortgage loans to our Habitat families and use volunteer-driven construction to save on costs.
