Help with housing, utilities, and energy costs
Housing:
Panhandle Community Services provides safe, affordable, and quality housing opportunities through the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formally the Section 8 Voucher Program). The Program allows individuals and families to locate and select their own housing and use the voucher to pay for all or part of the rent. All housing units must pass a housing standard quality inspection prior to anyone moving into a unit. The unit maybe an apartment, house or mobile home based on the family’s housing needs.
Applications are pulled from the waiting list based on income, date, time, and other factors. Go to their website to apply.
Weatherization:
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) can help eligible families reduce energy consumption, heating, and cooling costs. These services are provided free of charge to eligible homeowners and/or renters. Households with seniors, disabled persons, or children under the age of 6 years are priority clients in WAP.
Utility Assistance:
Panhandle Community Services works with public and private funds to pay the utility bills of low-income families. In addition, staff provides families and individuals with educational information to help reduce their utility costs and budget counseling to help them manage the cost of their utilities.
Eligibility:
To receive utility assistance, the household must have current outstanding utility bill(s), live at the residence, and be at or below 150% of the current U.S. Poverty Guidelines.
