The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of the Panhandle serves as the advocate for older adults across the region, promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life. We provide comprehensive and coordinated programs to assist individuals aged 60 and over, as well as their caregivers, in navigating the challenges of aging.

The Caregiver Support Program
offers vital assistance to families caring for older adults or individuals with dementia. We provide resources, counseling, respite care, and educational opportunities to help caregivers manage the emotional and physical demands of their roles.

The Home Care Options Program
provides short-term, in-home support for older adults recovering from a recent hospitalization or health crisis. Services are designed to help individuals maintain independence at home through personalized care plans addressing daily living needs such as personal care tasks and light housekeeping.

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
advocates for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities, ensuring they receive respectful and competent care. Ombudsmen work directly with residents to address concerns, educate them on their rights, and help resolve complaints.

The Medicare Benefits Counseling program offers personalized, unbiased guidance to Medicare beneficiaries, helping them understand their coverage options and make informed decisions about their healthcare. Our Certified Benefits Counselors assist with Medicare plan comparisons, low-income assistance programs, and preventing Medicare fraud and abuse.

The Nutrition Program provides Congregate and Home Delivered Meals to reduce hunger, improve health, and promote socialization among older adults. Congregate Meals are served in group settings at local senior centers and select senior housing complexes, offering opportunities for connection and community. Home Delivered Meals are provided mid-day through partnerships with local senior centers and other organizations, helping individuals maintain access to nutritious meals at home.

Operated by Amarillo City Transit, the program offers a number of free rides to eligible individuals for trips within the Amarillo City Transit service area.
